Promote fatty acid absorption
Studies confirm that in human milk, fatty acids (mainly triglycerides) are esterified to glycerol backbone in a unique order, which differs from the form found in oils from vegetable or cow milk sources.
Palmitic acid is a major fatty acid present in human milk, most (70-75%) is bound to the SN-2 position of glycerol, in which case is known as 1,3-oleic acid-2-palmitate triglyceride (OPO).
Research found that OPO brings at least the following benefits to infants and young children:
1. Reduce crying by up to 75% in newborns, soften stool, and reduce constipation
2. Enhance absorption of calcium and fatty acids and strengthen bones
3. Improve intestinal flora
